I think the most effective way is being in an artistic connection. Unfortunately if you want to be an succesful artist and sell your art you have to meet many people you don't like and you should make a strong network with curators , gallery owners and collectors. Go to their partues as much as you can...

For an artist its very important to get gallery representation, several galleries, different cities that should improve your chances of selling your artwork. Galleries find different ways of attracting curators, and people who will buy their art. That's the way to go

From what I have seen at shows the art is almost irrelevant. It all comes down to salesmanship. Some people are just good at meeting potential buyers, talking with them, and closing the deal. Others, whose art may be much "better", have a hard time selling anything.
