You are invited to the opening of the 2003 International Juried Online Symbolist Art Show, "The Mythic Quest", at www.dracoblu.com/symbolistshow.html
Almost 400 entries from artists representing 17 countries included: painting, printmaking, photography, drawing, etching, collage, digital, and sculpture works of art. Among the 44 juried finalists, are the following three artists selected as winners of the 2003 competition:
1st Prize, $1,200 – Doreen Foster, Victoria-by-the-Sea, PEI Canada, ‘The Beloved and the Dreamer’ (etching & aquatint)
2nd Prize, $500 – Jane Andrews, Surrey, England UK, ‘Moving On’ (oil)
3rd Prize, $300 – Helena Nelson-Reed, Woodridge, IL USA, ‘Brighid’s Walk’ (watercolour)
The purpose of this annual one-of-a-kind event is threefold:
- To promote symbolist art and its importance of leading the viewer’s imagination into the unseen world of thoughts, hopes, and fears. Symbols in art are a catalyst to personal revelation.
- To provide artists from all backgrounds an affordable, convenient, and global venue to exhibit their work. Finalists and winners will be showcased through to May 1, 2004, the date of the next show.
- To help art students gain exposure and bring together a diverse array of inspirational perspectives from around the world.
The International Juried Online Symbolist Art Show is an annual competition and show of symbolist art including fantastic, visionary and surreal genres. The current show, "The Mythic Quest", will exhibit from May 1, 2003 - May 1, 2004, and is curated by Canadian artist and writer, Susanne Iles.
