Art niche in the Internet market

What do you think about online art galleries? Is it generally a good idea to sell artworks through the Internet?
My idea about all this is that online gallery can become a wonderful chance for arists to enlarge their audience, to share their thoughts and ideas with different people from around the world. All this is quite clear but every person have his own point of veiw about online sales of artworks. So my question is more about this idea. Is there any sense in trying to arrange an art sales through the Internet or it's better concentrate on different offline activities?

I think this was one of the founding myths of the internet. The medium doesn't lend itself to art commerce, but rather to art information. Artists are far better selling their work offline where buyers can develop a proper emotional relationship with the work. Websites are fine for allowing people to view work prior to getting in touch with the artist or gallery, but there is nothing better than a real bricks and mortar gallery. More importantly, websites cannot communicate the scale, texture, the sheer presence of a work. Our artists merely use the www.artknows.com website to stimulate interest in their work. The sales take place offline. How many art internet sites survived the great internet meltdown? Virtually none.

I will tell you something.I'm trying sometimes to sell via internet and it's a big problem because if you're not going trough Ebay, you don't sell anything!Or you can sell for a very small price!I tryed on ebay with small pieces from 1000-1500$ and I have quite good results but when you sell pieces above the 5000$ you can forgive it!Nobody who has a lot of money buys on ebay!Maybe someone should start something like ebay but only for art...I'm starting something with my parents who is a gate in the art market but i'll not tell to much now!When it will be operationnaly,i'll post a publication message on the forum and hope everybody would read it because it's very usseful!
