Hi
I should think there are. There's a very strong and (dare I say it) vibrant arts community throughout the Asia Pacific region. Does "breaking though" mean "logging on to Art Network"? If so - I guess I am although I don't know how many Oceanians (love that name! makes me feel like Aquaman) join me at this time. Hope to see more in any case.
Regards,
Sahra (Melbourne, Australia)

Natalya Hughes is a Brisbane based artist currently undertaking the honours program at Queensland University of Technology. She works in a variety of media including sculpture, photography and painting, as well as digital media, and is interested primarily in notions of the body and the way they function in relation to representation. This work, entitled "Veiled - Isolated, Reframed and re-Represented", critically engages with Lacanian theories of gaze and the Real and explores ideas of the 'veil', its ties to the body and implications for the viewer. "Veiled—" represents a new direction for these works which although manipulated via digital media, were originally completed as oil paintings. The premise behind this exhibition was to take these works back a step and remix them in another medium thereby creating a vastly different context for these works to be viewed. hi there! it would be really great to have a more active discussion in relation to some great (and some: simply famous) south-east asia + oceania artists. i'd be quite interested in what people think about the following australian artists = . tracey moffat . rosslyn piggot . hossein valamanesh . patricia piccinini . or any other that you would like to bring to the table
