Would you like to showcase your art and products to a worldwide audience? We are inquiring to commission artistic talents under normal, but slightly modified, work for hire and confidentiality procedures.
My wife and I have 21 claims with the US patent office for a double deck of cards. If you are interested and should we, as a team, progress, you will be provided access to materials, designs and concepts which we do not want released until after the double deck, boxes and advertising work is finalized and printed.
The required over all, multicultural look, compared to a deck of regular cards, is simplified, regal, sophisticated, and slightly updated. We do not want to offend the traditional card players but, as the same time, appeal to the SCI-FI and Fantasy players. The 1st production run of this deck has to target a "G" rated audience so no bare breasts, excessive blood, gore or over sexed poses as. (Sorry, we know this takes out most of the fun) Portraits are mirrored top & bottom. This takes time but we have come up with a great short cut to speed up the process as it relates to playing cards. If you want to drop yourself in as one of the face cards you are more than welcome to do so. Overall, this is a tough job so the question is "Do you have the right mix of styles, talent and perseverance?"
As far as card-deck rights to the art work, this project must be considered work for hire. You do not have any ownership or license rights relating to the card deck art work provided to us or the card decks as they are produced. However, we grant very liberal licensing rights back to the artist, i.e., you. You could not sell the work as a deck of cards but may sell singles or pairs as individual works of art. Someone might want their face dropped into the King of Spades. In fact, once the deck becomes popular, we would encourage you to do so.
Your name, email address or business name can be placed on the outside of the rack box or tuck box to give artistic credit and name recognition towards your contributions. Upon completion of the art for the 24 face cards, of a total of 100 plus cards, two tuck boxes, one rack box and a palette of icons you will be paid $250.00 (USD).
With all subsequent production of this deck we would pay a similar royalty fee to you or, when we make contact with major business organizations, they might chose to have you modify the card backs, fronts, icons or any other feature of this deck. Then they would pay you separately from their license agreements with us. When this first deck is successful, we may also speak with you on other versions and/or themes of our deck. At the same time we could sell the printed card deck versions, with or without modifications to the original work, to anyone.
These are the general terms of our discussion. We are receptive to hear mature suggestions and or modifications. Once we all are in total agreement, we will send the 24 B&W sketches of the face cards, and roughs of the tuck and rack boxes.
How much time do you need? Bet you don't hear that to often. Here is how we see the priorities & time lines… By the way anything we, Carolyn or I, speak of is meant as a topic of discussion, not as an edict except that we won't proceed or go on to the next step until the previous one is finalized to our standards. Anything is open for discussion between you and us. Yet at the end, we have to invest a substantial amount of money into the printing of the first multi-thousand deck run. With that open discussion in mind, here are the priorities and time lines as we see them. What are your thoughts? Files must be 300 dpi, EPS compatible CMYK.
1. Suit Symbols defined and colorized; 2 to 3 days
2. Review and B&W modification of Twenty four Face card from your perspective; 1 week
3. Finalize Face cards and coloration; 2 weeks
4. Ace development in B&W, then coloration; 2 to 3 days
5. Joker Development in B&W, then coloration; 2 to 3 days
6. Eighty two number card alignments and coloration; 1 week
7. Rack box in B&W w/ Bar Codes, then coloration; 1 to 2 days
8. Tuck boxes in B&W w/ Bar Code, then coloration; 1 to 2 days
9. Card backs in color #8 in priorities; 1 to 2 days.
Your name and web site would then go out to all the people who play cards with this deck and to some of the biggest Fortune 500 companies to their advertising executives. We are not going to "embed" the suit symbols in the face cards so later if someone wants different symbols they can custom order it and pay for the changes. This may sound confused now, but once you know the whole picture it will be clearer. It should suffice to say that there should be excellent opportunities for similar work, at much higher rates of pay from corporate sales.
Once we hear back and select whom we will be working with, and have an agreement on dollars, terms and conditions, we'll send the B&W’s of the face cards. Do not reply via this forum. Email to TOSS@USA.com or TossRules@USA.com
God Bless, Carolyn and Dennis
