Searching For Your Smile
We looked and smiled at each other, as we left the train
Even when we motioned back and forth in a no name dance
We glanced at each other for months, always a quick glance and smile
This happened for months
Our trains always reached their destination
Through good weather and bad
Then on September 11, 2001
Our worlds changed forever
The day started beautifully with smiling sunshine
We didn't make eye contact that day
We were busy running for our lives
Confetti was falling from the skies
Dust and dirt flew everywhere
Men, women and children were running and screaming
Two hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers
Get out of the train tunnel, run as fast as you can
Another hijacked plane hit the Pentagon
Another crashed in Pennsylvania
When brave passengers followed Todd Beamer to take back their hijacked plane
The burden of war, was slowly falling upon us
All Americans that day, became United
We walked to escape the danger
Many lives were lost, many disappeared, and many are missing
Did you arrive home safely?
I ran so fast from fear, I didn't look back
I couldn't see you from the tears streaming down my eyes
